With well-kept facilities and lovely views of Hokianga Harbour amid the surrounding verdant hills, you’ll definitely feel like you’re on holiday at Rawene Holiday Park. Located above the town of Rawene, the holiday park is on a hill on a peninsula that juts into Hokianga Harbour. The harbor is on the remote east coast of Northland near the town of Opononi and north of Waipoua Forest, home of the largest Kauri Tree in New Zealand (and therefore the world). The holiday park has powered sites for campervans, and basic sites for tents, plus cheerful blue cabins for those who really want to get comfortable – all facing the harbor.
It seems the cook had a hand in the planning of this holiday park, because the kitchen comes full of amenities and a big window with views of the tranquil lake-like harbor. Two sinks, a refrigerator, oven, stove, toaster, and even an electric kettle are at your disposal. The kitchen is bright and clean, with all the utensils you may have forgotten at home. A long window above the stovetop frames up a picture-perfect view of the harbor, so if you’re responsible for dinner, you’ll get a fantastic sunset view over Hokianga Harbour as you cook.
Once you’re done in the kitchen, there are picnic tables outside and a barbecue grill. There are clean bathrooms with unmetered hot showers and a pool that you can swim in. Rawene Holiday Camp truly is a great place to relax and unwind on Holiday!
Tent sites and powered sites are $18 per person per night. Children are an additional $8 per night. To get to the holiday park: Take SH 12 to the Rawene Road turnoff, located 15 kilometers northeast of Opononi. Drive north on Rawene Road, which becomes Parnell Street after 4.5 kilometers when it reaches the town of Rawene. Drive another 800 meters and Turn left on Marmon Street. Drive one block over the hill and turn left onto Manning Street, where you’ll find the entrance to the holiday park on the left. Drive up the hill to the reception. All turns are marked with signs for the holiday park. Marmon Street is 1.1 kilometers south of the ferry landing at the north end of Rawene where a ferry crosses the harbor to Kohukohu.
